Preparing to Return to Work

Did somebody say "low effort post"? Cause I'm going to try. Wait that doesn't make sense. Anyways prepare for a ramble about the new daily routine I am trying to get into.

I am in the interview process for a job. Obviously it's far from guaranteed that I'll get it, but I do feel confident. But, as I am preparing for the possibility of getting this job, I am realizing my routines have drifted in a... detrimental way. So it's time to rework my daily routines to prepare myself for Having Work!

I'm making the assumption that my work schedule will be Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm (with a 1 hour lunch break). Thus, I have built a schedule around this.

Aim is to wake up daily at 6am. On Mondays and Fridays, I will immediately head out for strength training. On Wednesdays and Saturdays, Couch 2 5k will be what I do. All other days I immediately get on the rest of my routine.

Next task will be morning showers, followed by breakfast, then maybe some free time and/or chores.

Tuesdays and Thursdays I tune into a morning stream. Then at 8am I upload a few videos to YouTube for my Let's Play channel.

9am I begin working. Until I actually have a job, this will consist of programming, job hunting, and recording videos. 1pm is lunch break and a few chores, then 2pm I get back to work.

6pm I am free from work! The goal is to then spend 30 min writing, then about 1 hr of Final Fantasy XIV, and finally some more chores. At 8pm, I edit some videos to render overnight, then at 9pm I prepare for bed. I would like to shift my sleep schedule so I am asleep by 10pm.

Weekends obviously won't have work, so instead on Saturdays and Sundays I will spend time recording videos during those hours, then leave the afternoon for free time and relaxation. Though 2pm Saturdays is when one of my Final Fantasy statics meets to work on 8-player duties for the Let's Play.

Last thing I work on each week - 6pm US Pacific/7pm US Mountain/9pm US Eastern on Tuesdays and Wednesdays is when my savage static meets for raid nights. We stream these by the way! You can find us over on Twitch! For me this is 7pm, which also means that on those nights I do fewer chores and don't edit videos. That's fine, I'm allowed to have days off!

My weekdays are feeling like they'll be a little busy, but at the same time it'll be good for me. I function much better and feel much happier when I have a good solid routine set up. Obviously it's all subject to adjustment as I try it more and find pain points, but I think I've set it up well?

Tomorrow will actually be an odd diversion from the routine I just set up. Today was too (but I'll write a separate blog post about that soon)! But tomorrow I won't actually be doing my Couch 2 5k because I uh... did it today! Right before strength training! It went well, I didn't injure myself or anything, but it did become obvious that "oh right, you can get injured from over-exercising, I should put cardio and strength on separate days".

Oh, and the last thing in my routine. Every hour from 8am - 5pm, I try to go for a 5 min walk. Overall it adds up to about 50 min of walking, or around 8000 steps. It's a good way to keep me from just sitting in front of the computer all day. Sunlight is good for the skin and the eyes! Could I walk more? Certainly, but this is already a good chunk.
